The rise of home offices

With the rise in home working as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic it is no surprise tenants are looking at properties with enough space to incorporate an office.

Where once the trend, particularly amongst young professionals, was towards open plan living and perhaps even a garden, now the renters’ demands have changed significantly.

Now they are prioritising home office space at the expense of a garden, a more affluent or desirable location or school catchment areas.

And this trend is likely to continue given the more flexible working practices that have arisen as a result of the pandemic.

Hawkins’ lettings agent, Craig Arnold, said: “We have found our tenants’ wish lists have changed a lot during the past two years

Many are now working at home some or most of the time and need the space in which to do so in a way that doesn’t impact too greatly on their family or home life.

As a resultwe have seen a definite increase in the numbers of tenants eager to rent properties with an extra bedroom or study area so they can work in peace – let’s face it, no one wants to do a Zoom meeting from their bedroom!

It seems the box room has finally come into its own as renters want to Pandemic Proof their homes.”
